Dezincification of steel scrap

More than three million tonnes per annum of galvanised, thin-gauge scrap plate in Germany include over 60,000 tonnes of zinc – or 10% of the total used. PROASSORT develops pickling plant for new and old scrap with annual throughput of 150,000 tonnes per annum and higher. Pickled, in-line sorted steel scrap is thus converted to high-performance materials.

Zinc is intelligently reclaimed in a highly economical process. Dezincification of thin-gauge scrap plate opens up new horizons for the steel industry: thin-gauge plate from the automotive industry and zinc are now recyclable at the product level. Steelworks' can reuse their smelting dusts with high iron content – instead of sending them to landfill, as was previously the case.
