In resource-intensive economies substantial quantities of secondary resources cannot be utilised in a closed loop because of the way their materials are engineered. Millions of tonnes of treated steel scrap are exported – and hundreds of thousands of tonnes of alloyed metals and coating materials are either barely reclaimed or are not future-proof. Plastics from lightweight packaging find their way into 'downcycled' products or end up in Asia.

To facilitate generation of high-performance materials PROASSORT intelligently reconditions the secondary resources, orders and finalises (assort) them in line with their precise chemical composition and, using this process, forms a new product family within the resources industry: sorted prime secondary resources.
